After starting a new business just before Covid-19 hit and opening up a salon in her parents’ converted garage, 23-year-old Lissie Wright has been named Best for Hair in Cheshire 2022.
In the first of our ‘Best of’ awards Lissie Wright Hair, which is based on Langley Road in Northwich, is our winner and fought off tough competition from salons and mobile hairdressers and barbers from across Cheshire.
Lissie trained as a hairdresser in Knutsford and then moved to a salon in Middlewich before deciding to go out on her own and accepting her dad’s offer to convert the garage of their Northwich home.
She was aiming to set up her new business at the beginning of 2020 but launched six months early in August 2019, soon finding herself booked up each week and her appointment book filling up for two or three months later.
Then Covid-19 struck and like all salons and hairdressers, Lissie was forced to close and she worked at The Hut Group during the first lockdown and for NHS Track and Trace during the second.
She said: “When we were allowed to re-open I was worried that people wouldn’t come back but I was trying not to be negative.
“I think being closed for so long made the business even more popular and people booked appointments straight away.
“I have a lot of clients based in north Cheshire but I’ve had people travel from Birmingham and North Wales and last week I had a lady who was visiting family from Canada and she came for her haircut!”
Lissie Wright Hair was one of eight salons and hairdressers nominated for Best Hair in Cheshire 2022.
One nomination for the award said: “Lissie is one of the most hardworking hair queens I know.
“She set up all on her own not long before Covid-19 hit, her business survived and she still continues to smash it every single day.
“I love my time with her.”
Lissie said: “When you look at the competition in Northwich alone never mind in Cheshire, I just thought there was no way I would win – but I have!
“It’s just fantastic and my clients have been spoiling me since I was announced as the winner, bringing me flowers and prosecco to say congratulations.”
