BOWLS is often perceived as a game for older people, but this theory was turned on its head when nine-year Luka Jones Dakic made his debut for Comberbach C in the Mid Cheshire League.
Luka, son of Dave Jones the Mid Cheshire League fixture secretary, recorded a 21-18 victory against Wharton Rec B on Thursday night.
He only started playing bowls one year ago and this was his first competitive game in the league.
The Barnton Primary School pupil will be looking to build on his impressive start to the season over the coming weeks.
Ben Harris and Ryan Prosser from Birmingham had a fruitful journey up the M6 on Sunday when they claimed the Castle Sports Open Pairs competition and with it the winner’s cheque for £300.
In the final Harris and Prosser beat John Brom and Alan Manual 21-14 in the final.
Stuart Kellett and Matt Thurlwell were the best performers form local bowlers as they lost in a closely fought semi-final 21-19 to Brown and Manuel.
