THE council says it is committed to redeveloping a vital road link in and out of Northwich.
Last summer, Cheshire West and Chester's (CWAC) cabinet approved plans for a funding application to be made to Government to build a new bridge at Winnington.
That was in June, and this week, Northwich town councillor Lee Siddall shared his frustrations with the Guardian, over the lack of updates from the council on the matter.
With the bridge set for an overnight closure at the end of April to allow for 'essential' works to be completed, Cllr Siddall argued the ageing sructure was no longer fit for purpose.
However, a spokesman for CWAC said it accepted the need to redevelop the bridge and was working on business case for a new, wider structure.
They said: "Cheshire West and Chester Council is committed to seeing improvements to Winnington Bridge which needs redevelopment.
"Officers are currently developing a business case for the Winnington Corridor, which would include a new, wider bridge.
"We are working with key stakeholders to ensure that the business case is ready to apply for new funding opportunities.
"Officers are currently assessing the feasibility of applying for round two Levelling Up funding, which would help us progress with redevelopment of the bridge."
