MOTORISTS are being warned of long delays on the M56 this afternoon, Wednesday.
Two lanes are currently closed on the westbound carriageway due to a defect on the road surface.
Emergency repairs are being carried out by National Highways between junction 14 for Stanlow and 12 for Runcorn.
Congestion stretches back around five miles to junction 10 for Stretton.
Delays are in excess of one hour on top of normal travel time.
Restrictions will be in place until 5am on Thursday according to Highways.
