WORK on erecting temporary classrooms at The Grange School is set to begin.
The Hartford school had been seeking permission to build five 'portacabins' to house its graphic design students while 'extensive' work is carried out to its sports hall building, which is home to their current facilities.
Now Cheshire West and Chester Council has approved the lawful development certificate for the scheme, which will see the buildings erected on part of the campus which has been used as a car park.
A planning statement, written by Lucy White Planning Limited on behalf of The Grange School, says the buildings will be removed once work on the sports hall is complete.
It added: "The proposed installation of temporary classrooms on part of the school campus over the period from May 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023, is sought by the school to enable the existing graphic design classrooms to be decanted into alternative facilities for the duration of proposed works to the existing sports hall which includes graphic design classrooms.
"Due to the extensive nature of the works, both internally and externally, it will not be possible for lessons to continue during the construction phase and it is therefore proposed to install 'portacabins' to provide classroom facilities for the duration of the construction.
"On this basis, the school proposes to install the temporary classrooms for a period of up to 20 months, installed as part of the mobilisation phase of the construction works and removed as soon as reasonably practicable following completion of all works to the former sports hall."
