VALE Royal Borough Council is set to debate controversial plans for a gas storage compound in King Street.

Scottish company King St Energy Ltd wants to dig out 10 underground chambers beneath land at High House Farm opposite Morrisons, and build a gas processing plant above ground.

The borough council can only give their views on the application - the final decision of whether to grant or deny lies on the shoulders of the Cheshire County Council.

But Pennys Lane resident Wayne Ranger, who has formed an action group, Resistance Against Gas Storage (RAGS), says the pressure must be kept on the borough council.

"It is absolutely essential the borough council comes out against the application and such a result would be of major influence to the final decision," he said.

"People must write a letter or email Vale Royal as soon as possible, stressing, as a local resident, your objections.

"There is still time but we all need to spread the message, our only enemy is to think leave it to somebody else'."

The action group plans to hand out 2,000 leaflets to tell people how they can give their support, and is optimistic' that it can beat this.

A spokesman for Vale Royal Borough Council confirmed that the planning committee would meet to discuss the application on Tuesday, February 12.

A website has even been set up where details of the proposal and the battle against it can be viewed. If you would like more information, please visit tinyurl.com/2t99tv.
