PRIMARY school students successfully flew the flag for Vale Royal at a county sports event.
Youngsters represented Antrobus St Mark's in a Cheshire final for the first time and impressed in more ways than winning the silver medals.
Deputy headteacher and PE lead Miss Rhian Perry said she was proud of the way the children conducted themselves while competing in the Cheshire and Warrington Small School Sportshall Athletics County Finals at Ellesmere Port Sports Centre.
"We came second and were awarded silver medals and certificates to take back to school," she said.
"I was so proud of them all for representing not only Antrobus St Mark’s but also Vale Royal.
"The children demonstrated some great spirit of the games values which are determination, honesty, passion, respect, self-belief, and teamwork.
"Alongside this the children cheered on all other teams showing great sportsmanship and I was proud to be alongside them as their teacher.
"This was the first county final that we have ever been part of and we are so happy that small schools are now able to be fully involved and represented at these events."
Students took part in a wide variety of events including obstacle relay, 4x100m relay, standing long jump, triple jump, javelin, chest push and more.
Girls and boys competed separately then a total score was given at the end to create the results.
Sport is popular at the school.
Miss Perry added: "Even though we are a small school, sport is at the heart of Antrobus.
"We ensure that our pupils are offered a wide range of both in-school and extra-curricular sporting opportunities including weekly forest school sessions in our amazing woodland area, external sporting competitions and high quality PE as well as after-school clubs such as football, rugby, netball, tennis, dodgeball alongside many others.
"We have an active 'sports crew' which is a selection of our eldest pupils who plan and deliver clubs to other pupils.
"All of this has meant that we have been a ‘gold’ sports mark school since 2018/2019.
