A CHARITY championing health and wellbeing initiatives is appealing for more residents to sign up for a 10k run at Northwich’s Anderton Boat Lift.
This is The Running Bee Foundation’s very first event in the heart of Cheshire, with its chosen venue taking runners on the banks of the River Weaver, as well Anderton Nature Park.
Taking place on May 15, the race starts and finishes beside the iconic Anderton Boat Lift.
The Running Bee Foundation promotes the benefits of an active lifestyle and helps in the fight against childhood obesity.
It makes funding accessible to all parts of the communities it serves, with no restrictions on age, financial status, religion or gender.
All profits from the Anderton Boat Lift 10k go to health and wellbeing initiatives in the community and every finisher will receive a commemorative t-shirt and medal.
Standard entry is £22, while club entry is £20.
If you wish the enter MyFirst™ Mile, entry is £5.
This has been created to encourage individuals to complete their very first mile, whether they run, walk or jog, and take the first step towards having an active lifestyle.
Kevin Harmer, event logistics and sponsor activation manager at The Running Bee Foundation said: “It’s so important to The Running Bee Foundation that we see local support from individuals and teams so we get that local feel and the buy-in.
“As with all Running Bee Foundation events, we grant all profits from the race to local good causes who promote health and wellbeing, so effectively, runners who take part are not only helping themselves but also those in their community.
“The response so far has been really positive – runners excited to be ‘getting back to normal’ so-to-speak following the pandemic, and able to run knowing that their efforts will be felt locally.
“We hope to be able to deliver this race annually – and with running clubs, sports clubs, gyms, leisure centres etc. all supporting it gives us great confidence that Sunday, May 15, will be a day to remember.”
Razzer’s Runners is a running club based in Barnton which has entered a team and is raring to go.
Chris Dymond from the club said: “We have runners of all abilities, from beginners to marathoners.
“The atmosphere at a typical training session is extremely informal and, thanks to the club's ideal location, close to Anderton Boat Lift, Marbury Country Park, the River Weaver, the Trent and Mersey Canal and the open countryside, members can choose their distance and terrain.
“This makes The Running Bee Foundation’s Anderton Boat Lift 10k an ideal event as it is our local terrain, and as we come out of the pandemic this will be an ideal event to go to as a team and enjoy a morning out.
“With all of the profits going to charities, it will also benefit the area.”
Razzer’s Runners train on Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm, and on Sunday at 8.30am from Barnton Football Club.
There is also a walking group on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
