A support group for people with sight-loss will be returning in person for the first time in more than two years.
As with many charities, the Macular Society was unable to hold face to face meetings due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
But now, as restrictions have come to an end and the country begins to live with Covid, the charity is looking forward to returning to normality.
The Macular Society, together with local people, organise the groups, which aims to offer information, encouragement and friendship to people who are affected by macular disease and other sight-loss conditions.
The Northwich Macular Society support group, which helps residents in the town and in Winsford, will meet on Wednesday, April 13, between 10.30am and 12pm at the Salvation Army, in Tabley Street, Northwich.
The group will then continue to meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 10.30am at the same venue.
Carl Harrison, Macular Society regional manager for North West England, said: “Since the pandemic began, we have run telephone services to keep people connected, who otherwise would be isolated and without much-needed support.
“Bringing the groups back face-to-face in a fun and safe environment, as we had done prior to the pandemic, is a brilliant step which brings people back together – that makes such a difference and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back as well as meet new faces.
"Of course people’s friends, family members and carers are welcome to join the meetings.
“The groups invite guest speakers on a variety of subjects, including macular conditions and the impact on daily lives. The meetings are also social occasions where people can simply chat over a cup of tea.
“If you have age-related macular degeneration, please know you are not alone. These groups are crucial for support and tackling loneliness so please drop in and reach out to us.”
Macular disease is the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK and can have a devastating effect on people’s lives, leaving them unable to drive, read or see faces.
