REFUGEES are set to be welcomed into Cheshire west as the crisis in Ukraine worsens.
Cheshire West and Chester Council has confirmed it is getting ready to play its part in providing safety and shelter for people fleeing the war-torn country.
Councillor Louise Gittins, council leader, said: “I continue to be shocked and saddened by the events unfolding in Ukraine.
"We have a proud history of welcoming refugees and asylum seekers and last year the council passed a motion with all parties agreeing that the borough should continue to be a place of sanctuary for anyone escaping violence, persecution and hatred.
"We look forward to hearing what plans the Government intends to put in place to support the people of Ukraine and stand ready to help.
"We are already in the process of resettling vulnerable Afghan families and will continue our caring approach to anyone who is forced to flee their country."
