A MAN has been hit with a 12-month driving ban after being caught behind the wheel while high on cocaine.
Police stopped David McElligott while he was driving his Audi A3 on the A556 through Davenham on September 4, 2021.
The 45-year-old, of Granville Square, Winsford, was found to have 44µg/L of cocaine in his blood – more than four times the legal limit of 10µg/L.
He also had 653µg/L of Benzoylecgonine, a cocaine breakdown product, in his blood – more than 13 times the legal limit of 50µg/L.
McElligott was arrested and subsequently charged with two counts of drug driving, which he pleaded guilty to at Chester Magistrates' Court on March 1 this year.
Taking his guilty plea into account, magistrates disqualified him from driving for 12 months and fined him £120.
He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34.
