A 25-YEAR-OLD man who threatened a witness to stop court proceedings after harassing her has been jailed.

Cauley Stewart, of Beaufort Close, Hartford, appeared in Chester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, February 24, charged with harassment and intimidating a witness in Northwich.

The court heard between December 25 and 31, Stewart sent unwanted text messages and social media messages and made a number of phone calls to a woman.

On December 28, he also intimidated the woman – who was a witness – and threatened her to cease court proceedings.

Magistrates took Stewart’s guilty plea into account but decided the offence had crossed the custody threshold.

Stewart was sentenced to a total of 26 weeks in prison.
