SEVERE delays are being reported due to lane closures on the M6 at Thelwall Viaduct this morning, Wednesday.
Three lanes were closed on the northbound carriageway between junction 20 for the M56 at Lymm Interchange and junction 21 for the A57 Manchester Road at Woolston.
The lane closures were planned overnight as National Highways conducts carriageway resurfacing, with the work due to be complete by 6am.
However, due to issues with tarmac setting, the lanes remained closed until 8.20am.
Despite reopening, tailbacks remain stretching back six miles past junction 19, while travel time is one hour and 10 minutes on top of normal.
There are also delays on the M56 as a result.
A National Highways spokesman said that road users should allow extra time for their journeys or consider alternative routes.
