NEW business units in Northwich look set to be given the go ahead despite concerns raised by residents and the town council.
Cheshire West and Chester’s planning committee is recommended to rubber stamp proposals for the two units on land at Griffiths Park Industrial Estate off Middlewich Road.
They would each be two stories with the ground floors designated for industrial, storage or distribution use, and the top floors for office space.
But the application has been called in for further discussion by the planning committee by Cllr Sam Naylor on behalf of local residents owing to fears over highway safety. The town council has also raised concerns over access and egress to the site. Six objections from local residents have also been received.
A report to the committee, said: “The character of the surrounding area is predominantly residential, with terraced housing to the south and a single detached bungalow to the west.
“The site can be accessed via two points of entry: the main entrance to the industrial estate that runs adjacent to the building currently occupied by the Co-Operative to the south east; or the unadopted driveway leading from further down Middlewich Road, and which serves commercial premises including the premises currently occupied by Speedy Hire and the bungalow known as Barfield to the west.
“It is understood that this particular access would serve the proposed development.”
If given the go ahead, each unit would be six metres tall and constructed from a combination of brick and metal cladding under corrugated steel rooftops.
The committee meets tomorrow (Tuesday) where it is recommended to approve the plans.
