THE coronavirus pandemic has seen a significant decrease in the amount of Cheshire residents using public transport – while visits to parks and outdoor spaces has increased.

This is according to Community Mobility Reports from Google, which aim to provide insights into how our movements have changed during Covid-19 across different categories of places.

The data from January 18, 2022 is compared to data during a five-week period between January 3 and February 6, 2020 – just before the first lockdown.

In that time, the use of public transport is down 24 per cent in Cheshire East and 36 per cent in Cheshire West, which is among the most noticeable difference.

Both areas have also seen a 31 per cent decrease in the amount of residents travelling to workplaces.

Meanwhile, there has been a 23 per cent increase in people visiting parks in Cheshire East, and an 11 per cent increase in Cheshire West.
