SOME students at The Grange School could soon be working in temporary classrooms while 'extensive' work takes place on campus.
The Hartford school is looking to erect five temporary classroom buildings for its graphic design students while work is carried out to its sports hall building, which houses the current graphic design facilities.
Situated on the campus, the temporary buildings will occupy a site which has been used as part of the school car park for at least 10 years.
Now the school has submitted an application to Cheshire West and Chester Council for a lawful development certificate to install the buildings and use them between May 1, 2022, and November 30, 2023.
A planning statement, written by Lucy White Planning Limited on behalf of The Grange, says the buildings will be removed once work on the sports hall is complete.
It added: "The proposed installation of temporary classrooms on part of the school campus over the period from May 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023, is sought by the school to enable the existing graphic design classrooms to be decanted into alternative facilities for the duration of proposed works to the existing sports hall which includes graphic design classrooms.
"Due to the extensive nature of the works, both internally and externally, it will not be possible for lessons to continue during the construction phase and it is therefore proposed to install 'portacabins' to provide classroom facilities for the duration of the construction.
"The mobilisation phase of the construction works to the former sports hall are programmed to commence in late May 2022 and are anticipated to take approximately 54 weeks (including fit out) to complete.
"On this basis, the school proposes to install the temporary classrooms for a period of up to 20 months, installed as part of the mobilisation phase of the construction works and removed as soon as reasonably practicable following completion of all works to the former sports hall.
"The 20-month period incorporates a degree of tolerance to allow for potential delays in the construction programme and therefore should represent a worst case scenario."
The school has yet to select the supplier of the temporary buildings.
