THE Winsford Town Council by-election will take place next week, with three councillors to be elected across two wards.

For the Gravel ward, one councillor will be elected, while two will be elected for the Over ward.

The poll takes place on Thursday, November 25.

Here are your Gravel candidates:

Labour’s Colin Murray, running for the Gravel ward, set up Greville Residents Association because he knew something needed to be done about anti-social behaviour.

Northwich Guardian:

He worked with residents to identify the perpetrators and get things back under control.

Colin’s pledge to residents is that he will keep identifying issues and get them sorted.

Colin wants to improve access to education in Winsford by working with Winsford schools.

He’s a supporter of the Winsford Green Spaces project and wants more events in the town centre for families to enjoy.

The Liberal Democrat candidate running in the Gravel ward is former Wharton councillor Bev Theron.

Northwich Guardian:

He has ‘considerable experience’ of the ward and is ‘highly regarded for his ability to get things done for the residents’.

Retired school teacher Bev was born and brought up in the town, and he says his ability to deal with unruly pupils may well come in handy at future Winsford Town Council meetings.

Communication will be key for Independent candidate John Malam for the Gravel ward.

Northwich Guardian:

Living in Gravel, John is a best-selling children’s author and in 2019 became an Honorary Freeman of the Borough of Cheshire West and Chester.

John is the founder and chair of the Friends of Winsford Town Park, a community group which supports Winsford’s new Town Park, and was also an organiser for the Dene Drive Covid-19 assessment and vaccination centre.

He is a founding member and past chair of Over Allotments Association and will continue to raise awareness of, and interest in, Winsford’s allotments, parks, and open spaces if elected, as well as Brunner Guildhall.

John will also communicate with residents, keeping them informed on town council matters and make use of noticeboards to cater to those who may not be able to access electronic information.
