TWO boys from Cheshire Gymnastics Club came together to win bronze in a national competition.
Acrobatic gymnasts Zak Gregory, 14, and Elijah Duffy, 10, represented the North West at the British Championships and NDP Finals at Fenton Manor, Stoke, where they placed third at their level.
The pair faced tough competition as only gymnasts who had gained a gold medal at their home region preliminaries last month were eligible to compete.
Coach Laura Hudson, who selected both boys from the Moss Farm-based club’s recreational programme in April, said: “I’m so proud of our gymnasts.
“They work really hard and are relatively new into the competition arena with just seven months of training under their belts.
“Just think where they can be in another 12 to 24 months!”
When Zak and Elijah secured their qualification by winning gold at the regional championships at Moss Farm in October it was the first competition for both boys.
Meanwhile, Isla Smith, 10, was crowned both the North West champion and The Cheshire and Merseyside champion at the Women’s Artistic Regional Levels competition.
Coach Alisha Evanson said: “Isla performed with absolute confidence across all four pieces. We are proud of all of our gymnasts who competed, with medals for Meg Rees, Issy Akhionbare and Valentina Frizzelle too.”
