ECO-conscious primary school pupils have been enhancing their school grounds – for both pupils and staff and a very special furry visitor.
Using plants donated by B&Q, St Mary's Catholic Primary School's eco team brightened up the school.
A year one parent kindly donated three bird boxes, plus food for the school's resident squirrel.
The eco team decided where to put the bird boxes and regularly top up the food for the birds and squirrel to eat.
Pupils even took their talents further afield and collected four bags of rubbish while litter picking in Middlewich.
Their next initiative is to host a ‘no lights on in school’ day!
Their aim is to keep the ideals of COP26 alive after the world conference on climate change has ended.
They discussed in their last meeting how many children and parents leave lights on at home when they are not even in the room – the hall light, the landing light, the light in the kitchen and so on.
They regularly go round school turning lights off in the nurture room, chapel, classrooms or the hall for example.
They believe if everyone played their part, we could reduce global warming.
Site Manager, Mrs Turnbull, is in total agreement and told them: "I often go through the hall and the lights have been left on even though assembly or a PE lesson is finished."
