A MASS killing of fish was avoided in the Trent and Mersey Canal in Northwich earlier this week thanks to the Environment Agency.
The north west team quickly managed to aerate water with specialist equipment in Anderton Marina after pollution cause low dissolved oxygen.
The incident was reported by barge owners who noticed the fish in distress.
It was reported more than 500 fish were affected.
