A HOME care company boss is urging people to consider a career in the care industry, declaring the jobs as 'future-proof'.

Nick Hodgson, head of operations at Home Instead, currently has 40 vacancies and wants people to come onboard as he pledges to build an army of caregivers to provide support in the local community. The care company has clients across Northwich, Knutsford, Winsford and Holmes Chapel.

Referring to the resilience of care work against a backdrop of sectors such as hospitality and travel that have been so badly impacted by the pandemic, he says the jobs are ones for the future.

He said: "With an ageing population, home care, on the other hand, has seen a huge increase in demand, so much so that there is a national shortage of caregivers.

"The UK has an ageing population with over 14.28 million baby boomers who are coming into older age over the next few years.

"The millennial generation follows a close second at 14.22 million people.

"At the same time, we are living longer."

Michelle Lawson, registered care manager at Home Instead Northwich and Knutsford

Michelle Lawson, registered care manager at Home Instead Northwich and Knutsford, said: "I joined Home Instead as part a time caregiver as I was attracted to the role as calls were a minimum of one hour and I could work around having young children.

"Then, I joined the office team as a member of the on-call team, soon progressing to senior caregiver, field care supervisor and my current position as registered care manager.

"I have always been very passionate about providing the best possible care when I was a caregiver and I can now help mentor and support my team of caregivers and key players with the experience and knowledge I have gained over the years."

"Working in the care sector has its challenges, but it’s the most rewarding job.

"Being able to make such a difference to people’s lives from the very start of their Home Instead journey and enabling them to live at home with the care and dignity that they deserve."
