Crime falls by almost half in Pickmere and nearby villages

Offences relating to drugs, vehicle thefts, violence and sexual assault are down between January and August 2021, compared to the same time last year.

Figures provided by High Legh and Mobberley police, show that there were 26 crimes reported so far this year, whereas 50 were recorded in 2020.

Pickmere mum of two Jen Hughes, who runs Pickmere Neighbourhood Watch Scheme, said: "I am pleased to see that crime in the first eight months of the year is down on last year and this includes reports of anti-social behaviour.

"I am sure there will be crimes that have gone unreported, however reported crime statistics are lower than last year."

There were 26 incidents of anti-social behaviour last year compared to seven this year.

Incidents of violence and sexual offences have fallen from nine to five.

No vehicle crime or bike thefts were reported this year.

The drop comes months after Pickmere residents teamed up to combat crime by forming a Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

Villagers are encouraged to report any suspicious activity on a WhatsApp group as part of the new project.
