Drivers are being warned junction 19 of the M6 will be closed for 33 hours this weekend.
National Highways, formerly Highways England, will be closing the entry and exit slip roads at the junction between 9pm Saturday (September 25) and 6am on Monday (September 27).
This is to allow further works on the £43 million bridge to be completed.
The closure has been pushed back to avoid causing further traffic issues around Manchester United's Premier League match with Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The M6 itself will remain open to traffic but there will be no access to or from the motorway.
The A556 will also be closed from its junction with the northbound A5033 as well as junction 7 of the westbound M56.
Diversions will be in place with more information available at highwaysengland.co.uk/our-work/north-west/m6-junction-19/.
A National Highways spokesman said: "We always plan roadworks to minimise disruption to people attending large public events.
"The Premier League match between Manchester United and Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Saturday at 12.30pm means this weekend's junction closure will only take place between Saturday night and Monday morning."
Drivers are advised to check conditions before setting off.
