AN 84-year-old will be jumping out of a plane for the second time in memory of her 'soulmate'.

Vera Rogers from Winsford is hoping to raise as much money as possible for St Luke's Hospice, which cared for her late husband Joe before he died in January age 86.

Vera's skydive will take place tomorrow, Saturday, in Whitchurch – but this isn't the first time she has braved the skies.

Her daughter Colette Godfrey explained: "Having done many Midnight Walks in aid of St Luke's Hospice, in 2017 for her 80th birthday she decided to do a skydive 'because she could'.

"When she was 81, she abseiled down the front of the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, then when she was 82, she went along the longest biplane in Snowdonia.

"Covid put a stop to her adventures, however, in late 2020, her beloved husband was diagnosed with lung cancer.

"They had been married for 61 years and he was her greatest supporter. She was devastated.

"Dad went into St Luke's for respite in October 2020, then Covid hit the hospice so dad could not receive visitors.

"Communication with the family was via FaceTime, and the nurses all wore full PPE.

"Despite this being a difficult time for him, the nurses were so kind to him, by treating him with humility, respect and compassion.

"They were always happy to talk to the family and keep us informed of his progress, and dad reciprocated by telling jokes and singing songs.

"Cancer took his lungs, not his sense of humour.

"Mum was determined that she would continue to raise money for the charity and vowed to do her skydive when she could."

Vera added: "Though Joe was very ill, those nurses made him smile every day, and he kept them entertained with his wicked sense of humour.

"They are such wonderful people and we need to support them and the hospice as much as we can.

"Joe died in January at home, and I miss him so much.

"However, he always supported me in my fundraising and I know that he will be with me as I jump out of the aircraft."
