SHOPPERS were excited to get a first look inside Winsford’s new Aldi store this morning.
The Dene Drive store opened at 8am and around 15-20 people were ready to head inside, with the supermarket soon filling a majority of their car parking spaces.
We also headed down to take a look at what has changed from the previous Aldi and to see what customers made of the alterations.
The isles are now wider to allow more space for visitors and staff to operate.
Care products now have lighting inside the shelves to make them more visible.
There are electronic price tags that update automatically (including sales) to save the use of plastic.
So, how to customers feel about some of these changes to the store?
Winsford resident Emma is a fan.
“It’s fantastic, it’s a lot bigger, you can see everything laid out now and they have got more to sell,” she said.
“There are lots of different special buys. With the old one, everything was squashed in and you couldn’t see everything that you needed, whereas in this one, it’s perfect.”
Emma also feels it is exactly what Winsford needed.
Another resident Victoria feels it is much better than the previous store.
“It’s brilliant,” she said.
“The fruit and veg being in the refrigerated section is awesome, so the longevity of it will be so much better. There’s more space, organisation and it’s 100 per cent better than what it was.
“It’s much more convenient. Like anything in life, no matter what, organisation is better and it makes life easier for the consumer buying the products.”
Other changes include extra space to hold more items above the freezers.
The breads have been moved away from the fruit and vegetables to the other side of the store.
And when at the till, there are now two stations so two people can pack away their shopping at any one time.
The shop has maintained its staff from the previous store, with half a dozen new staff and they are still recruiting.
Another shopper Marina said: “It’s nice, spacious and well organised and I like the doors. The aisles are huge, it just gives you more space when people are stacking shelves, you’re not struggling around, it’s a lot better."
And partners Marie and Alan are best pleased with the upgraded store.
Marie said: “It’s absolutely fantastic."
Alan added: “It’s lovely. The other store was depressing with the atmosphere.
Marie continued: “This one is fantastic, spacious, clean, tidy.
“With the layout you can see where everything is and it’s just so nice. Everything’s labelled and you know where you are up to."
Alan added: “The isles are wider so it’s a lovely store and I really like it.”
Store Manager Steven Warwick said: “It’s been a wonderful morning here at the opening of Aldi Winsford.
"It was lovely to welcome both familiar faces and new customers into the store and I look forward to meeting more of the community in the coming weeks.”
