WITTON Albion shook off their journey troubles to achieve a 1-1 draw at Gainsborough Trinity in their opening game of the Northern Premier League campaign.
Kick-off was delayed 15 minutes due to Witton being held up by traffic congestion on their 120-mile journey to Lincolnshire.
Albion were let off the hook in the second half when Trinity's Kyle Dixon fired a penalty over the crossbar when the score was 1-1 at The Gainsborough Martin & Co Arena.
They went in front thanks to Curtis Morrison's effort in the 36th minute.
But on the stroke of half-time Carl Macauley's men responded with the goal that proved to be worth a point.
Nathan Woodthorpe, on loan from Crewe Alexandra, marked his debut with the all-important strike.
Witton: Hall, Baldwin, Woodthorpe, Wardle, McNulty, Sutton, Jebron, Ryan, Hopley, Hooper, Owens. Subs: McKenna, Foley, Paterson, Nugent, Gill.
Witton host Lancaster City on Tuesday in their first home league game of the new campaign.
