FIVE years ago this week, Winnington Park RFC set about creating a women’s and girls’ section.
Now the section is going from strength to strength.
With provision for girls to play rugby from U6 all the way to U18 and participation numbers in the senior women’s team at an all-time high, Winnington Park enter the forthcoming season with great anticipation.
“We have had a number of new players join the women’s and girls’ squads over recent months and there is a real team spirit building across both the junior and senior sections and we can’t wait to get back to some proper rugby after so much time away,” said Steve Berg, director of women’s and girls’ rugby.”
Both the junior and senior women’s teams have started back with early pre-season training.
The junior girls train on a Wednesday night and Sunday afternoon, the senior women train on a Thursday night and Sunday afternoon.
Berg added: “We would encourage any women or girls who would like to get involved to get in touch. No prior experience is needed, everyone is welcome.”
