THE future of a band born in the hallways of a Cheshire college looks bright after being signed to a record label – and with a headline show at Gorilla Manchester coming up.

Delights, now based in Manchester, is a four-piece guitar band formed in Northwich in 2017.

Adam Maxwell (vocals), Ben Kirkland (bass guitar) and Ben Squires (lead guitar) enlisted Leo Willis (drums) while at Sir John Dean's Sixth Form College, releasing their first demos shortly after.

The next year saw the band release a number of singles as they began to attract a growing following to their shows around the country, embarking on several UK tours.

Delights continued to release singles, and most recently the track ‘Utopia’ earlier this year.

Following a run of sold-out headline shows, including Manchester's iconic venue The Deaf Institute, the band is now pushing forward post-lockdown to get back on stage where they belong.

Northwich Guardian:

Ben from the band said: "We've just been signed to Liverpool-based record label Modern Sky so that's a big milestone for us.

"The four of us are all at university together in Manchester so we live together and during the lockdowns we set up our own practice room in one of our bedrooms.

"Lockdown really changed the way we write songs, I think that's down to us all living together throughout.

"Before, one person would write a song at home and then we would all listen to it and make changes.

"Being able to live together, we were able to write in the moment all together, it wasn't just one person.

"The upcoming songs we've got are all different sub genres, but I guess it all comes under the indie music genre.

"We try not to be just one sound, we've got quite a broad range of songs and we're hoping not to be just doing the same thing."

Northwich Guardian:

Delights draws its inspirations from an eclectic catalogue of music, including classic rock, funk and more modern music, and has amassed 750,000 streams to date, gaining them support from Spotify’s ‘Hot New Bands’ and ‘Fresh Finds’ playlists.

The band has already played in Sheffield and Manchester since the country has slowly started to get back to normal this year.

"We were definitely more nervous for the gig in Sheffield after so long," Ben explained.

"But having had that one, we weren't too nervous for the Manchester one and it just felt good to be back in a big room full of people again.
