HARD-working residents have been thanked for their litter-picking efforts to make Northwich a cleaner place to live.
A group of five residents from Dane House, a mental health supported housing scheme run by SIS, were presented with certificates of appreciation – with four getting gym passes off Brio Leisure, and one a voucher from Halfords.
Directors of the supported housing scheme, as well as staff members from the companies, attended a special event on Monday to say thank you.
Dane House got involved with River Angels as part of their litter pick mission.
This group carries out clean-up sessions along canals and rivers in the north west to make them cleaner and safer for everyone to enjoy.
Dane House support worker Glen Timmins said the litter picking has become a regular activity since last November which residents have really enjoyed.
“We got involved with River Angels late last year,” he said.
“We go out in the community picking litter up and helping to make it a cleaner and safer place and more attractive for the general public.
“It has helped build their self-esteem,” he added.
“As a group, they have interacted a bit more and the litter picking has really benefitted them.”
Glen said he hopes the hard work of Dane House may encourage more people to join in.
Dane House is a development of 14 self-contained flats in the centre of Northwich.
It supports clients with mental health needs and staff have one to one time with clients as well as offering group activities and trips.
Social inclusion opportunities are encouraged and provided through use of amenities and services like day centres, support groups and leisure activities to integrate clients back into the community.
