A WOMAN was overcome by smoke after she fell whilst cooking.
The lady was preparing her tea at home on Castle Street when a plastic food container accidentally melted, filling her flat with smoke.
Firefighters were called after her smoke alarm sounded at 4.20pm yesterday and treated the woman for smoke inhalation.
Paramedics then took her to hospital where she was kept in overnight for observation.
She is now safe and well back at home.
A close relative of the woman said: “She got a plastic container of cheese out of the fridge and had gone into the lounge to peel potatoes.
“The plastic container had been left too close to where she was cooking and melted and set the fire alarm off.
“She immediately opened the windows to ventilate but because her mobility is not that good, she fell over as she was wafting the smoke.
“She used her pendant to call the care line and get help as she was on the floor and couldn’t get up.
“She was kept in hospital overnight but is now back home and fine.”
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "On arrival at the scene crews found that the occupant had fallen whilst cooking and the flat was heavily smoke logged.
"Firefighters dispersed the smoke and the occupant was provided first aid to the occupant, she was then passed to the care of paramedics."
