A MOTORIST suffered serious injuries and was placed into intensive care after a crash on a major route.

Mitchell Lears, from Hood Manor, suffered a broken ankle, ribs, wrist, arm and sternum and underwent emergency surgery after the head-on collision on the A533 in Davenham on shortly after 6.30pm on Friday, July 2.

His Honda Civic was one of four vehicles involved, along with another car, a pickup truck and a horsebox.

The driver of a silver Ford Ranger fled the scene, between the junctions with St Wilfrid’s Church and Peck Mill.

Known as Mitch, the 27-year-old support worker is now out of ICU and has been moved to a high dependency unit.

He was rushed into theatre to repair a hole in his bowel on Saturday and had further surgery today, Tuesday, in order to mend multiple fractures.

His aunt Debbie Myers has set up an online fundraising page for her nephew, who recently moved from Fairfield to a new home in St Helens.

She said: “His mum and two sisters have been heartbroken by not being able to go and see or visit him, and they are all worried sick.

“He has not long secured a new home for himself before the accident, and we are all worried he will lose it as his recovery is going to be a long one because it will be some time before he can return to work as a support worker and DJ.

“I have set up a GoFundMe page to help pay his rent for the coming months to give him one thing not to worry about, and in the short time it’s been up we've had an amazing response.

“His family would just like to say thank you to the Warrington community for their support and prayers.

“We hope the police can catch the person who fled the scene.”

Cheshire Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

A force spokesman said: “Police are appealing for information after a motorist failed to stop following a collision in Davenham.

“At 6.42pm on Friday, July 2, officers were called to the A533 following reports of a collision involving a silver Ford Ranger, a silver Honda Civic, a white Mazda and a blue Volvo horse box.

“The driver of the Honda Civic, a 27-year-old man from Warrington, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries – the driver of the Ford Ranger left the vehicle and fled from the scene.

Police constable Moghaddam added: "A number of enquiries are ongoing in relation to the incident, and we are doing all we can to trace the driver of the Ford Ranger.

"We would urge anyone with information no matter how big or small to contact us - the same goes to those who may have captured dashcam footage of the collision and have not yet passed it over to police.

"If the driver of the vehicle is reading this, I would urge you to contact us so that we can establish the circumstances."
