A BURNING 4x4 found 'well alight' on the A49 in Norcott Brook on Saturday (June 26) had been set on fire deliberately.
Lymm Fire Station responded to reports of a vehicle being on fire shortly after 3pm and when they arrived at the scene, discovered an abandoned 4x4.
The fire was quickly extinguished by one firefighter wearing breathing apparatus and the matter has now been referred to the police for them to investigate further.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Shortly after 3pm firefighters were called to reports of a car fire on the A49 Tarporley road at Norcott Brook, near Northwich.
"On arrival the crew found an abandoned 4x4 which was well alight.
"One firefighter, wearing breathing apparatus, used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
"The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate and anyone with any information is asked to visit www.cheshire.police.uk/ro or call 101 quoting IML 1022827."
