A NURSING home resident who is described as being 'as sharp as a razor' has celebrated her 101st birthday.
Enid Jackson, from Sandiway Lodge Nursing Home in Northwich, enjoyed visits from her family earlier this week to mark the milestone.
This was extra special as due to lockdown restrictions, Enid could not have any visitors for her 100th birthday last year, although staff did use Zoom for a virtual celebration.
Enid's son Alan said: "Well, she's 101 and still going strong.
"OK, her movements are very restricted and she has dementia, but at times you forget this.
"Her brain sometimes is as sharp as a razor, and she’s still quick with retorts if she disagrees with you.
"Mainly though, she’s as nice and kind as ever she was, and was always encouraging me both as a child and adult to follow my dreams, and work hard to achieve them.
"Nothing was impossible in her eyes, provided you put in the effort."
Alan said that Enid has always been there 'when disasters struck' and would never lecture or criticise.
"I think her secret in reaching this milestone is due to several reasons," Alan added.
"One – she was born just after the First World War, when times were hard.
"It wasn’t a time for self pity, but more for self improvement.
"She excelled in this, and was always positive about tomorrow, and her record in this is exemplary, particularly her war work from 1939 onwards.
"Two – she smoked in her earlier days but drank in moderation throughout, but she does still enjoys a Baileys or a Sherry when offered.
"Three – her care at Sandiway Lodge has been superb for the past two years plus, and previously at Essendene Barnton.
"I can’t thank the staff enough for looking after her.
"All the family wish her an even better longevity – she said recently to me that 103 will be her goal – and thank her for her contribution to everybody.
"All her lifelong friends have pre-deceased her, but she still enjoys a laugh, and has never lost her sense of humour."
