A SHOP selling balloons and party accessories in Northwich has submitted plans to turn its ground floor into a wine bar.

The planning application relates to The WOW Shop at 15 Market Street.

An application form submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council seeks permission for a change of use on the ground floor of the premises only from retail to a wine bar.

The balloon and party accessories business continues to operate from the first floor of the building.

A letter of support, which is available to view on the Cheshire West and Chester Council website, from Jane Hough, Business Improvement District programme manager, reads: "The premises neighbours Weaver Square and is located close to where the outdoor market was located before it was demolished after a fire in January 2020.

"This particular area is currently being developed into an open green space to support with the vibrancy and vitality of the town centre.

"Extensive work has been undertaken by the Business Improvement District and Cheshire West and Chester Council to develop this area to support with events, festivals, alfresco dining, and arts and culture initiatives.

"The change of use from a current balloon shop to a cosmopolitan wine bar would not only support our ambitious plans for this locality but also expand on our plans to develop the evening economy in Northwich town centre."
