THE queues outside Northwich’s barbers started snaking down the high street from around 8am today, as the town took its next step along the Covid-19 recovery road map.
Amongst those ready for a busy day – with appointments booked all the way through from 8am to 8pm – is Crate Cheshire’s men’s hair salon, on Crown Street.
It’s been a particularly tough year for the salon, which was one of many businesses in the town impacted by the January floods.
But owner Charles Rose, who also runs a salon in Knutsford, was optimistic on the first day of welcoming customers back over the threshold and full of praise for the town’s support.
He said: “After a long period of lockdown we are ready for a very busy few weeks. We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received throughout the pandemic and the flooding in Northwich, so a huge thank you to everybody for continuing to support us.
“Our clients are amazing and we are so excited to get back to work to catch up with them and give them their post lockdown haircuts.

“We are incredibly hopeful that this will be the final lockdown and we are looking forward to safely welcoming our customers, old and new, back to the salon.”
The first day back is already being deemed a success, with Charles adding: “It’s been very good in Northwich, very busy, which is great. Everyone has been out and about, showing their support for the town which is lovely.
“It just shows that everyone is happy to support us and ready to get back out on the high street.”
Charles has been a hairdresser for more than 10 years, and comes from a family of hairdressers.
The Northwich salon opened in July, 2018 and Charles and his partner Alex Green opened their Knutsford branch, on Minshull Street, last August.
The business is currently operating on an appointment basis, and people can make an appointment by calling 01606 350865 or visiting cratecheshire.co.uk
