THE Post Office in Northwich town centre has re-opened after being hit by the Storm Christoph flood waters in January.
After a little more than two months of closure, the High Street-based business, was back open on Wednesday morning, with sub-postmaster Muhammad Sufian happy to welcome back his customers.
He said: "We’re happy to announce that Northwich Post Office has today reopened after the flood.
"We look forward to seeing you all.
"Thank you for your support."
The post office was one of many businesses in the town centre to be devastated by floods back in January, after drains underneath the town failed to deal with the huge deluge of rain brought by the storm.
Northwich MP Mike Amesbury said he was delighted to hear the news.
He said: "I’m delighted to learn that Northwich Post Office has reopened following the devastating floods in January.
"I understand that Muhammad and team have been hard at work refurbishing the shop and post office with the spirited commitment to come back better and stronger.
"I passionately believe post office and banking services are integral for maintaining healthy high streets. But post offices are much more than that.
"Just like pubs and local shops, they are at the heart of our communities. A sub-postmaster or sub-postmistress will often know their customers on first name terms and offer a personal service that makes us feel valued and welcome.
"I urge everyone to support the post office and I’m working hard with others to try and ensure the floods Northwich has suffered in recent times do not happen again."
Councillor Sam Naylor also welcomed the news at such a vital local service getting back on its feet and said it was a further sign of the green shoots of recovery.
He said: "It's fantastic news the post office is back in action.
"Don't forget the post office is also one of the businesses that have taken advantage of the townscape heritage fund, which brought the building back to standard it should be in terms of its architectural quality.
"It's another green shoot of recovery, re-building confidence and getting the message out there that Northwich is open for business again.
"I was in the town centre last week and two more shops, U Mobile and Cash Generators, are about to join Vision Express in getting back up and running too.
"Coffee shop Abda, which was badly damaged and Bratts are also cracking on with preparations to join them.
Sam Naylor posted this image of the ongoing repair works at Abda Coffee and Cakes on Facebook.
"They're all displaying true Northwich grit and getting back in the saddle following the horrendous January flood.
"I intend to get a seat on the Northwich Flood Action Group to ensure that we do get real action to hopefully, once and for all, see an end to these awful disasters."
