THE neighbourhoods in Cheshire East and West which have been worst hit by the Covid-19 pandemic have been revealed.
Data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows that in that past year, a total of 1,718 people have died due to coronavirus in Cheshire East, and Cheshire West and Chester.
Across the North West, this figure is 17,370, which is the equivalent of 245 deaths per 100,000 people.
Of these, 884 people died in Cheshire East in the 12 months from March last year – a rate of 185 per 100,000 people.
The peak month for deaths in the county was April when 240 were recorded.
The neighbourhoods with the highest number of deaths included Mobberley, Plumley and High Legh near Knutsford, with 41 deaths due to the virus.
Factors behind a larger number can include the number of care homes in a particular area.
Meanwhile, a total of 834 people in Cheshire West and Chester died during the same period - a rate of 213 per 100,000 people.
The peak month for deaths was also April when 190 were recorded.
In Cheshire West, the Lostock and Wincham area of Northwich has one of the highest number of deaths, with a total of 27.
The figures are for recorded deaths where Covid-19 was registered as the main cause.
The rate of deaths are age-standardised, which means they account for age and population size.
