A FORMER 1874 Northwich player is hoping to make his comeback from an ACL reconstruction soon.
Dilan Lomas, who made 34 appearances for the Greens between 2015 and 2016, is now living and continuing his career in Melbourne, Australia.
He has provided an update on his football after responding to the Guardian's request for people to provide their choice of the greatest 1874 Northwich XI, which he has also confirmed.
"I'm still playing, (or planning to) after coming to the end of rehab for ACL reconstruction," said the defender, who was a member of 1874's Mid-Cheshire Senior Cup winning side of 2015-16 after joining the club from Porthmadog FC.
"It turned out to be a good year to have it done with the season postponed, so I haven’t missed a competitive game yet.
"Still playing for Boroondara Eagles. We’ve been promoted as champions every year I’ve been here, which was the goal of the project when I agreed to join.
"We’re now close to where we should be and aiming for another promotion.
"Still not sure of a long term plan but hoping to be back to visit when the world gets somewhere close to normality."
He has called in at Northwich a few times since moving Down Under and has fond memories of his time with the club.
"I've been back a few times to watch when I visited home, seen some old faces and it is always nice being recognised by them," he said.
"I’m now a lifelong fan living in Australia. Joined the club in 2015 and genuinely loved every second of it.
"The late chairman, Vicki England, Ian Street, fans, players, turnstile volunteers unbelievable club.
"Winning the First silverware for the club was special. No one knows how far this club will go and hopefully they’ll achieve much greater accomplishments but being able to be a part of that for me was amazing."
While the coronavirus pandemic here looks likely to curtail a second successive season in the North West Counties League, over in the inner eastern suburbs of Melbourne the plan is for the new season to start in March.
"We’re doing well over here," he said.
"I won’t get too political but the government are strong and quick in their decisions and learn from mistakes quickly so we have an almost normal life now.
"Fingers crossed it looks better for you guys sooner rather than later!"
