THE Winnington Swing Bridge repairs project has received a prestigious engineering accolade.
Cheshire West and Chester Council, and the Canal and River Trust charity, who care for the bridge, worked closely during the vital repair project, as well as Arcadis, Kier, CGC and Davies Industrial.
Each year, Institution of Civil Engineers North West seeks out and shares examples of excellence in civil engineering practice across the region.
The Winnington Swing Bridge project won the 'Small Project' category in this year’s awards – for projects under £5 million.
The council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for environment, highways and strategic transport, cllr Karen Shore said: "This is excellent news and is well deserved.
"This project involved brilliant partnership working that ensured the repairs were carried out with minimum disruption to motorists.
"The project was made possible when the council was awarded £780k from the Department for Transport’s Maintenance Challenge Fund.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved, congratulations on this prestigious award."
Richard Spencer, project team manager for the Canal and River Trust said: "We are delighted to be part of the winning multi-agency team and receive recognition for this challenging and successful repair project.
"Winnington Swing Bridge is a key heritage structure on the Weaver Navigation, carrying the main A533 trunk road, so it was important to secure it for the future.
"The success of the project was very much down to the close cooperation between of all the partner organisations."
