THREE children have teamed up to help fund a cure for diabetes.
The youngsters have been inspired by Northwich schoolboy Max Watson who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was only six
The 10-year-old has joined sister Izzy, eight, and cousin Thomas Garland, nine, from Wilmboldsley to run or walk 1k every day throughout March.
The trio have already raised an astonishing £3,655 for Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, a charity which is funding research to one day eradicate the condition.
They trek out every day wearing T-shirts emblazoned with 'Max's Mission'.
Hartford Primary School pupil Max, from Winnington, said: "I wish for a life where I don't have to think about carb ratios, corrections when high, drinking Lucozade when I'm low.
"To be able to pick up that packet of sweets and eat them without having to put insulin in and wait 20 minutes.
"I want to run around playing with my friends without worrying I'm going to have a hypo. To sleep through the night without my phone beeping at me as I'm high or low.
"I want to help find a cure."
Max's aunt Kim Garland, 39, a teaching assistant from Middlewich, whose son Thomas is taking part in the fundraiser, said: "We are very proud of them all. Max came up with the idea. His original target was £1,000 so he is absolutely amazed to have raised so much money already.
"Max and Thomas are cousins but also best friends.
"They have had donations from Canada and Dubai as well as lots of anonymous gifts. People seem to be really getting behind them and want to support them perhaps because they are so young."
Max's mum Lauren immediately recognised the symptoms of diabetes when he became ill.
"He was lethargic, very thirsty all the time and getting up in the night for a wee," said Kim. "Max was diagnosed instantly.
"He now has all the very latest technology to control his diabetes. He wears a pod on his arm and has a blood glucose monitor permanently attached to his stomach.
"A fine catheter administers insulin into his body so he does not have to have injections. He manages his condition extremely well."
Max would like to say a special thank you to his teacher Victoria Miller for all her support.
