A SINGLE mum and her 10-year-old son who has additional needs have lost their home in a devastating fire.
Jess Mullock, 28, popped out to drop off her son Jack's water bottle at Winnington Park Primary School when a neighbour rang to say her home was on fire.
Bruno, the family's Shih Tzu was rescued by firefighters and has made a complete recovery
Firefighters found the property in Jubilee Crescent, Winnington ablaze shortly after midday on March 8 and rescued her dog Bruno.
All that remains of the gutted kitchen
Fortunately, the Shih Tzu was given oxygen and made a full recovery but the fire destroyed the kitchen. The cooker had been accidentally left switched on.
The rest of the house is so badly smoke damaged, the family has had to move into emergency accommodation in Cuddington.
The whole house has been declared inhabitable due to smoke and water damage
Jess has been inundated with clothes, food and support from family, friends, neighbours and people across town.
"I can't thank the community enough," said Jess. "People have offered me so much help and support it has been overwhelming.
"It makes me feel so proud to be part of Northwich. I have received some lovely messages. I am a fully qualified hairdresser. Once I get back on my feet I want to do something to give back."
Jess's brother Luke, 24, who launched a GoFundMe appeal, said: "It has been amazing. It goes to show there is still community spirit.
"I just want to raise funds to provide Jess with new white goods so she can make her house back into a home."

Jess had only just finished decorating.
"I am very house proud and had worked so hard," she said. "I always dreamed of having that perfect home.
"I am a very independent person. I taught myself how to paint and wallpaper and I'm so proud of how far I've got.
"This was mine and my son's home. It's absolutely devastating to see it ruined but I look on the bright side. We're all safe and we can build it up again.
"I think I am still in a lot of shock. I don't know if I have lost precious pictures and belongings as I haven't felt ready to go back into the house and sort through all the devastation."
On the day of the fire Jess heard that her son had finally been granted funding to attend a special educational needs school.
"This will be life changing for him," said Jess. "It will help him to achieve so much.
Jess and Jack
"Jack is my world. He is such a polite, sweet little boy. He has adapted to this situation very well. I can't say how proud of him I am."
Jess, who attended Charles Darwen Primary School and Hartford High School, wants to say a special thank you to her brother.
"Luke is my rock," she said. "He has been such a great support. He is so strong minded, so positive and so caring, I want to thank him as a brother and uncle to my little boy.
"I want him to know how much I appreciate him and truly love him."
