A GRATEFUL family has paid thanks to Frank Roberts and Sons employees who lined the road to say goodbye to a much-loved colleague, who died after battling cancer and coronavirus.
Carol Peach, a bakery operative with the Little Treats brand, was taken for one last trip past the Rudheath business as part of her funeral procession on Friday.
The 62-year-old's friends and colleagues lined the streets and applauded in her memory.
Family member Liz Peach said she was 'overwhelmed' with the kind gesture.
"We as a family would like to say a massive thank you to Roberts Bakery for their most amazing tribute to Carol," Liz said.
"We were so touched and it made the day so special.
"I don't think there are many places of work which would have done this."
Carol died in February after testing positive for Covid-19 - less than two weeks after she was told her cancer was terminal.
Liz explained: "She was diagnosed with cancer in 2016 and she had an operation at The Christie in 2017 where she was given the all-clear.
"But sadly, nine months later, it returned so she had to start chemotherapy again.
"She had a scan in early February this year and while waiting for the results she had to go back to The Christie to have fluid drained.
"On the 6th, she was told the cancer had returned and was more aggressive, and unfortunately was only given between four and six months.
"She returned home on Sunday the 7th, and on the 12th she was feeling poorly and we had to get an ambulance.
"She was taken to Leighton Hospital where it was confirmed she had Covid and she sadly died on the 18th."
Carol leaves behind brothers and sisters, as well as nieces and nephews.
Liz added: "She worked hard even through chemotherapy treatment and had many friends at Little Treats.
"We just really wanted to praise Roberts Bakery, it was so moving."
