A BLOCKED drain is still overflowing with water 'cascading' down Saxons Lane in Northwich nearly three months after it was reported to the council.
One concerned motorist lodged a complaint at the beginning of December because excess water was pouring out of the drain at the top of Saxons Lane.
The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, received an email stating that someone would look into the problem within five days and it was recorded as needing 'urgent attention'.
However, more than a month later, the case was closed because the issue had been resolved.
The complainant said: “I was outraged because this was a blatant lie.
“A team from the council came out but they were fixing potholes along Saxons Lane – some of which were under water from the drain that was still blocked.
“What is the point of having reporting system that doesn’t work properly?
“How can they claim to have fixed the issue and completed the work when it’s still overflowing?”
A second form was submitted to the council and again the problem was reportedly fixed.
The resident added: “During the recent floods, some areas of the road were completely cut off and there was no way that emergency vehicles would be able to get down the road.
“At times, I need a 4x4 vehicle to get through the water that’s overflowing from the drain.
“Even in dry weather, it has still has water coming through, and when the temperatures drop below freezing it becomes even more dangerous for people walking, cycling or driving down the road.
“This problem has been reported several times and it’s being constantly ignored.”
A third complaint form has now been submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council.
A spokesman said: "We can confirm that an enquiry was received on December 7.
"A works order to clean the reported gully defect was raised on December 9 and reported as actioned on December 16.
"The enquiry was recorded as complete accordingly.
"Regrettably it appeared that the initial cleansing work hadn’t resolved the issue based on the further enquiries received.
"Thus additional drainage survey work was commissioned to identify the underlying system issues – this was undertaken on January 11 2021 and a system blockage identified.
"Follow-up excavation works are required to identify and resolve the blockage and an earliest possible date for completion of the follow-up works will now be secured and relayed to the customer.
"The council apologies for the delay in providing a final resolution."
