FIREFIGHTERS have been tackling a huge industrial fire in Northwich this morning, Thursday, with eight crews attending from across the north west.

At around 7.20am, fire crews responded to a large fire in an industrial building off Works Lane - confirmed as the TATA Chemicals site.

The blaze is suspected to have involved electrical equipment within the site, which measured approximately 200 metres by 300 metres.

Crews from Northwich, Warrington, Stockton Heath, Winsford, Lymm and Greater Manchester are in attendance, along with an aerial appliance.

The fire has since been extinguished and no smoke has escaped from the building, instead remaining contained within the warehouse.

As of 9.15am, a statement from Cheshire Fire read: "The crews have isolated the electricity at the scene and the site has now been split into two sectors.

"Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, are currently using main jets to tackle the fire."

At 9.45am, crews had used an aerial appliance to inspect the roof of the building and used a main jet to cool down any hot spots.

All people are accounted for and there are no reports of any injuries.

The incident remains ongoing at the current time.

A spokesperson from TATA Chemicals Europe said: "Earlier this morning the Cheshire Fire Service was called to attend our Lostock facility as a result of a fire in one building on our site.

"Whilst it is too early to determine the cause of the fire, we can confirm that through the fantastic efforts of the fire service, the fire has now been extinguished.

"We would like to reassure local residents that the fire is in a location that presents no cause for their concern and that a full investigation into the cause of the fire will be conducted as soon as practical.

"All site personnel have been evacuated and are accounted for with no reported injuries.

"We will provide a further update in due course."
