Appeal to give music fan killed in car crash a Download Fest wake

Dad-of-three Wayne Jackson, from Northwich was driving a black Vauxhall Corsa when it was involved in a collision with a silver Mercedes.

Sadly, the 44-year-old died at the scene on the A556 in Plumley shortly before 3.30pm on Thursday.

Family friend Sara Reading set up a GoFundMe page and more than £3,000 has been donated in less than a day.

Wayne's heartbroken family have described him as 'one of the most gentle giants you could meet'.

Griefstricken wife Jo, a part time carer and nursery nurse, from Higher Wincham, said: "We, as a family, are devastated that we have lost our whole world. We are heartbroken at being robbed of the most amazing man so soon.

"Wayne was one of the most gentle giants you could meet. He loved his family and friends and was a loving husband and daddy.

"He was well known for his love of music, ranging from the heaviest metal to classical music. He had a love for films and had a wealth of knowledge of nature, space and science.

"He was an avid writer and loved to write stories, one of which we hope to publish as a memory to him."

Wayne wrote a children's story entitled 'The Princess and the Spaceman' which is family plan to get illustrated and published.

The Manchester Airport worker was full of fun and had a great sense of humour.

Mum-of-two Sara, 40, from Lostock Gralam, said: "Wayne was taken far too early and we would like to celebrate his life in a style fitting for the fabulous man he was.

"I set up the fundraiser to help Jo and his family to give him the best possible send off. It would be great comfort to them to be able to give him the funeral he deserves.

"As there will be restrictions in place due to Covid, there will be a wake in a few months time.

"Music was a big part of his life. He loved Download Festival. We think a Download Fest themed wake party serving his favourite beers and bands with a hint of Disney would be great if we can make this happen.

"Wayne helped me by volunteering at my community Halloween event during the pandemic. He had a blast scaring everyone in the clown tent. The event was a spooky walk in Lostock Gralam."

Big-hearted Wayne was always willing to help everyone.

"Wayne was such a big guy but like a gentle giant, such a softy," said Sara.

"He doted on his children and was also a carer for his mum who is deaf.

"Wayne was one of a kind."
