THE 'world’s fastest Jaguar E-Type with a top speed of 180 mph is up for sale – 20 years after its last race at Oulton Park.
The 7.5 litre Jag – nicknamed 'The Beast' – boasts 750bhp and dominated its class of racing throughout the 90s.
Now fully restored it is available for private sale courtesy of the Northwich-based Hampson Auctions.
It is not known exactly how much the car could fetch – but it's current owner suggested it would be "multiple hundreds of thousands."
Zach Hampson, Managing Director at Hampson, said: "We believe the only car that’s come close is Phil Shepherds E-type which did 170.068 mph on salt flats of Lake Gairdner, South Australia.
"Our car did 184 mph at the Woodbridge speed trials, although with a change of diff, Rob Beere feels the car is good for 200 mph plus."
The original E-type V12 was built in the factory in 1975, but was then reconfigured in 1977 for the racetrack, becoming the 'Beast'.
The Beast was developed over the next 13 years on behalf of race driver Malcolm Hamilton, who in the Jag claimed 52 outright victories and 87 podium finishes.
The car’s remarkable run of success was halted by an accident at Oulton Park in 2001, following which the Jaguar was disassembled and stored before finally being sold.
The Jag has now been rebuilt by current owner, Peter Griffiths, to the equivalent mind-boggling specification in which it last raced.
But although he has fond memories of the car, Peter feels it’s time to let it go to someone that can further develop the car and or possibly race or track day the car.
Zach added: "Peter jumped at the chance to own the car having such fond memories. Now he feels it’s time to let it go to someone that can further develop the car and or possibly race or track day the car."
