A POPULAR Northwich pub and music venue is looking to expand into Winsford, new planning documents show.
The Salty Dog, on High Street in Northwich, has submitted a change of use planning application to the council for a property for 1-3 Delamere Street, Winsford.
The site is opposite the Electric Church, Winsford's record store and cafe which also hosts live music.
It would take the currently-vacant premises from a bottle shop to a live music venue, and also see a number of internal alterations take place, as well as installing new signage.
Documents also show that the new business, which will be called The Delamere Dog and open until 2am, could create two full-time and two part-time jobs in the town.
The Salty Dog, opened in April 2017, has quickly established itself as one of the best small music venues in the UK.
In 2018, it made The Guardian’s coveted list of best small venues.
At the time, owner Chris Mundie told the Northwich Guardian: “We’re not in a big city and we’re not in the most obvious place to find a popular bar or venue really, so I think it’s been key that we’ve thrown ourselves into the community.
“It’s really nice that we’re getting these plaudits nationally, but I think that’s only been made possible through the amazing support we’ve had locally first of all.
“One of the things that’s interesting if you look at any important venue in recent music history, is that they never start off in places you would expect them to. It’s never the obvious places that are already full of music venues. It’s the places where there isn’t that platform and somebody recognises the need for it and takes that risk.”
