A MOTORIST has called on the council’s highways team ‘to step it up’ after a pothole near Northwich cost her almost £600 in damage.

Jasmine Lightfoot, from Middlewich, was travelling to Warrington for work on the A559 when she struck a ‘nasty pothole’ in her BMW near the Cock at Budworth pub.

Ms Lightfoot told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: “It had been raining so I had no chance of avoiding it, I couldn’t see it very well.

“I think [the council] needs to step it up a little bit. We have taken pictures and five yards further up there is an overflowing drain. It’s quite clear it has exposed the drain biscuit.

“Trucks help to dig it out and loosen the tarmac. I just hope no one else has come a cropper.

“We’ve needed a new set of wheels. I was there from about 1pm and didn’t get home until 7pm that night.”

“[The tyre replacement fitter] said he had never seen anything like that. He said it was a nasty pothole.”

In response, Cheshire West and Chester Council says the offending pothole has been repaired.

A Council spokesperson said: “Our Highways team recently received a damage claim from Ms Lightfoot regarding this incident and it is now being investigated. The pothole has been repaired (February 9, 2021).”
