Hartford photographer's efforts recognised by prestigious Guild

Philip Yale has been granted membership of the Photographers Bar in three separate categories at the annual Guild of Photographers.

Membership of the Photographers Bar is a unique distinction awarded to those who have had images successfully assessed by the Guild over the course of a year, based on exceptional levels of professional skill and consistency.

Philip said: "It's been an even bigger task this year than previously, partly due to the difficulty in getting out and taking photographs, and partly because I chose to do it in three separate categories.

"I'm extremely proud to be recognised in this way by the Guild."

The Guild of Photographers is a highly-respected association for all photographers, and its competition attracted more than 16,000 entries in 2020 – all judged by an expert panel of judges each month.

Points are allocated to entries and these are then totalled at the end of the year.

Around 250 photographers have achieved the Photographers Bar in the seven years since its inception, during which time more than 75,000 images will have been entered for assessment by photographers from across the UK and overseas.

The award was announced at a virtual ceremony on Saturday, February 6.

In a statement, Guild directors Steven and Lesley Thirsk said: "We are delighted for Philip as this is a great achievement.

"Submitting and having images assessed every month for a year and reaching the required standards to become a member of the Photographers Bar is very demanding, and to do it in three separate categories is even more of an achievement.

"It illustrates his commitment, skill, and consistency. Philip should be immensely proud of what he has achieved."
