REPAIRS are needed on the chapels at Witton Cemetery in Northwich.
The chapels are more than 120 years old, and town clerk Chris Shaw told Monday’s Northwich Town Council meeting that the buildings are ‘showing signs of damage’.
“The roof is in need of replacement and we have movement in areas of the buildings,” he said.
“I propose that we have the buildings surveyed to identify any issues and look to obtain costs to repair.
“Once we have an estimated cost we can start to explore what funding is available to us.”
Members voted in favour of obtaining quotes for the repairs.
Meanwhile, Mr Shaw confirmed that the council will look to get the refurbished gates and piers at the Verdin Park entrance illuminated.
The gates were restored and reinstalled at the Castle Street entrance last month, although some adjustments need to be made to the surfacing under the gates.

“The gates have been restored back to their former glory and this entrance now looks spectacular as you drive past,” added Mr Shaw.
The council will also look at costs to refurbish the fencing to the front of the park.
